TCS Announces New Doctorate Funding Program

The Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) just recently announced a new academic based program for enhancing and encouraging students for further research works. TCS announced an academic research program for enhancing the faculty pool in India.

According to this program, TCS will fund about 200 doctoral students for over 5 years period time and will allow them to commence with the Phd programs in the various highly reputed academic institutions of the country. These TCS Research Fellows will then pursue with the original research work for the various computer science aspects. Also, from these 200 doctoral students, it will select about 40 candidates as the TCS Research Scholars every single year from all its reputable universities. This entire selection process will be conducted by the TCS and its ally academic centers.

Making this announcement alongside the sideline of Sangam, the TCS annual academic assembly, the CEO and the MD of TCS stated: At a time, when the introduction of new technologies are changing business models rapidly, there is an urgent need for more focused research to stay ahead of the learning curve. The TCS Research Scholars program will help enlarge the R&D agenda and encourage exploration of new ideas by funding candidates in doctorate programs.

Furthermore, the Head Global HR of the company, Ajoy Mukherjee said, “TCS works with our academic partners through the year to examine ways of deepening our relationship. The TCS Research Scholars Program is a new initiative to take this engagement with academia to the next level”. This taken initiative of the company will significantly enhance the level of the high quality universities and will generate new ideas for the country.

The program is engaged with as many as 499 institutes in India and about 85 other universities overseas, in the FY 2009. The program will be also conducting faculty development programs and will be benefitting as many as 4000 instructors and 52000 students globally through its 400 workshops. Until now, about 1300 students across the country have already benefitted from the TCS internship program.
